Michael and Maureen Murray
“Healing and Restoration of Culture through Family”
On February 25, Michael and Maureen Murray, SOLT lay members, will be speaking on how family life rooted in Christ can bring restoration and healing to the culture we live in.
Michael (originally from Wales) and Maureen (originally from Philadelphia) met at the University of Pittsburgh, PA, in 1983 and married in 1987. Maureen completed an MSW and Michael his PhD.
They have seven children ranging in age from 16 to 31. They have lived in Lawrence, KS for 18 years. Michael teaches Physics at KU. Maureen worked in Catholic campus ministry for ten years. They currently homeschool their daughter.
They began participating in the SOLT spiritual exercises in 2006 and made their definitive commitment in 2012. Maureen serves as third assistant to the general lay servant for the SOLT Lay Association. Michael is a deacon candidate in KCK. They believe in the healing power of God’s grace and are happy to talk about it!
Dcn. Jim Dougherty
“The call of the family in the Church."
On March 4, Deacon Jim Dougherty, a SOLT Lay member, will be speaking on the mission of the family and how it is intimately tied to the mission of the Catholic Church.
Deacon Jim Dougherty has been a member of SOLT in various capacities nearly 50 years. He and his wife, Karol, have four children and six grandchildren. He serves on the Big Island of Hawaii in parish ministry with a focus on a Micronesian population.

“Marriage: The Icon of the Trinity”
On March 11, Deacon John Purk, a SOLT lay member and permanent deacon serving at St.Louis parish in Kansas City, MO, will be speaking on Marriage being an Icon of the Trinity. This is a topic Deacon John is passionate about and feels deeply that from the moment he married Patty his wife, he was called to live this witness of the Trinity within their marriage and family.
Deacon John is married to Patty and together have 6 children. Deacon John also is a seasoned dentist, and has taught in dental schools at University of Missouri Kansas City and Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He also hosts “Communio w/ Dr. John Purk” on Catholic Radio.
